Red Studio, 2026
This drawing depicts my own studio, inspired by one of my favorite artists, Matisse, Red Studio, and by my personal creative space. It features four of my paintings on the wall and a drawing on the table.
I created it with oil paints on raw canvas. Raw canvas is not considered fully archival ( it will be okay for your life time), yet many masters, including Francis Bacon and Matisse, made some work this way. I suppose the charm is simply irresistible.
Drawing or painting on raw canvas feels like walking a fine line between intuition and control. You can’t erase the marks you’ve already made; whatever I do, the canvas keeps it. I have to embrace every gesture, and I love this unique characteristic. For me, the harmony of all these imperfections creates a raw, honest beauty.
