Hope II.

HOPE II., 2026

This piece is inspired by two signs of hope I found in nature.

One day, while walking in the park in Lisbon (Tapada da Necessidade), I came across the trunk of a cut tree. It must once have been tall, big, and full of life; now it looked like a dead, old trunk. Yet I also noticed sprouts shooting out from both sides of the tree. I found it resilient, strong—and that was the first sign of hope I discovered in nature.

After that, I wanted to capture it in a painting, but I didn’t know how. A few months later, I found the second sign of hope in nature. It was on August 12, 2026, the night of the solar eclipse. That night, I woke up in the middle of the night, unable to fall back asleep. I went out to the terrace because I remembered there was supposed to be a meteor shower, hundreds of shooting stars. Indeed, I saw three shooting stars, and one of them was fantastically beautiful. It brought out the naivety in me and made me wish. Finally, everything came together, and I knew how I wanted to capture this.

I created two pieces as part of the Hope series at the same time.
I hope this piece reminds you of the strength and resilience of nature, and of the power within us.
